-1st Annual Dorothy Pond Ice Out Contest:
Enter the first annual Dorothy Pond ice out fundraising contest, $300 to the winner!
For those who have not heard of an ice out contest, this is how it works. You can purchase a ticket to take a guess at the date and time that the ice will melt. This “ice out” date and time is measured by a device and manned by the Dorothy Pond Penguin (Pictured below). This contraption is moved out onto the ice mid-Feb to avoid any early freeze/thaw cycles. It has a weight under it that sits on the ice; when the ice becomes weak enough the weight breaks through the ice and via a simple mechanism it sets a flag and stops the clock giving us the day and time this occurred. The person whose entry ticket notes the date and time closest to this “ice out” event will win the cash prize. The contest is open to everyone, not just pond residents so spread the word to family and friends!
All funds raised goes towards the Dorothy Pond De-weeding efforts. Happy Guessing to Everyone!

-Dorothy Fishing Derby May 15, 2016 (original post from FB by Lee Bowker):
AGAIN, the fishing population has come through to honor the special people that were in my and others lives. With 20 plus mph winds 55 nut jobs came and fished the memorial derby, they were wet & cold but determined to contribute to the memory of Carl and Kevin by donating money and time to help keep Dorothy Pond useable. Even though the winds were high and temps low some nice fish were caught. John Franklin took the top honor with a 4.25lb largemouth for the $300 1st place prize which he immediately donated $ 60 of it to make the total donation to the association 1,000 dollars in the name of Carl and Kevin.I can not express how much it means to me that these people care enough to come in these conditions to help me honor my friends passing. Again thank you so much for your thoughts and caring.

2014 FISHING DERBY FUNDRAISER A GREAT SUCCESS
Rick Englehart Jr. won the 1st Annual Carl Schmitt & Kevin Smith Memorial Bass Derby held on September 7th with a 4.21 lb., 21 inch largemouth. While Rick won the $300 prize, the big winner was the Dorothy Pond Watershed Association with $840.00 raised toward our de-weeding deficit for 2014. We sincerely thank all who participated to make this a fun & successful fundraising event. Our special thanks to the Schmitt & Smith families as well as Lee Bowker who worked hard to make this happen!
